The history of our restaurant

The first written memories of the house in which the restaurant operates go back to the year of 1617. It was situated in the historical town centre, that is within the renaissance fortress walls. It had only one floor, as the Military Building Office did not allow any higher building. In 1703 the building was one-storied already, in which a German military officer ran a wine shop. At the end of the 18th century the place was expanded to its present state, it had two floors. From the end of the 1800s the building became known as the “Kuster house” and the ground floor already worked as a popular canteen at that time. After the wars and the nationalization the business got into the ownership of the ÁFÉSZ of Győr and Lajos Szalai ran it. The innkeeper – whom the people of Győr only nicknamed as “Uncle Öcsi” – made the place one of the most famous fisherman’s inns in the country by the end of the 1970s.

The present state of the building
Our family has owned the restaurant since 2001, the renovation lasted for three years. Preserving the traditions of the old times we intended to give rise to a restaurant with a unique style and a special atmosphere. The three arches in the cellar still keep the atmosphere of the 17th century building. The house and the restaurant inside had to come a long way to its revival. Whether it was successful and worth doing it or not will be you task to decide, Dear Guests.
